Activision has reportedly opened a new studio, tasking the nascent, Warsaw-based Elsewhere Entertainment with developing a "narrative-based and genre-defining AAA franchise". The huge entity underwent a massive wave of layoffs following the closure of Microsoft's Activision Blizzard King acquisition earlier this year.
As reported by IGN, Activision announced the news in a blog post, revealing that the team will be headquartered in Poland, with additional resources in the US. Built from the ground up, studio staff includes talent with experience working on The Last of Us, Uncharted, The Witcher, Destiny, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy's The Division.
When IGN asked for a studio logo or other official artwork, Activision sent the Cambridge University dictionary definition of the word "elsewhere". Still, if you squint, you can see something in the background. The outlet understands that whatever it is, it's unrelated to Call of Duty. Elsewhere Entertainment has "full access to Activision's resources and tools as it continues to increase production and development". It will likely be quite some time before we learn what they've got cooking.
Are you intrigued by Activision's new AAA narrative outfit, Elsewhere Entertainment? Is opening a new studio after so many layoffs in poor taste, or is it just another cold reality of the video game industry? Let us know in the comments section below.

Watch this studio get merged with the others to just make COD in a few years.
The timing is indeed terrible but it does make some sense since it's based out of Poland. There is a bunch of talent there and it's decently cheap to run a studio there. Regardless it isn't this team's fault what happened with Tango and the others so I hold no ill will towards them.
A new Xbox studio takes center stage ready to replace those fired a week ago.
Life and business goes on.
Of Course, Activision gets what it wants from their Parents .....
Neat. Here's hoping they don't get shut down.
So MS closed down 4 studios including Tango but they let Activision opened a new one that focused on making AAA games? SMH.
And yeah, i can see this studio will be used to make COD. For Activision, 4-5 studios working on COD are not enough.
Here's a tip for all the companies. Not everything needs to be a franchise from the start. Start with one good game. If that is a succes think about a sequel. If the sequel succeeds, then think about a franchise.
It makes me wonder how they will make a GaaS narrative game filled with macro transactions.
@breakneck Those US laws are to strict ah man this disgusts me so much.
Well I might have said their titles could need some more polish but this isn't what I meant...
They are already setting this studio up to fail expectations, especially for internal reporting. Talk about the massive undertaking to make a "genre-defining" game. They need to keep their expectations for their studios realistic. What are the chances of another Halo, Witcher, or (insert revolutionary title) being produced by studios these days with the amount of stress and potential firings looming over them constantly!?
@PuppetMaster Only people who are surprised are people who can't read.
Microsoft from the beginning said that XGS, Bethesda and Activision are separate branches with separate marketing, publishing and budgeting.
Meaning, that there is no connection between closure of Bethesda studio and creation of this studio.
Not to mention fact that if you check people who work in this studio, it's pretty clear that studio is 1,5-2 years old. It just got an official name.
So many uneducated people here who don't realize Ms studios, abk and zennimax are separate
